Investment teams rely on multiple data sources daily, feeds, internal models, portfolio data, and so on. But, so far, small teams lacked a right-sized solution to combine it all, distribute across colleagues and use AI agents on top.
If that’s your team, you’ve been facing a bad set of options. You could build the software yourself, which takes considerable engineering resources until it finally pays off. You could bring your data and workflows into a rigid SaaS tool, and give up ownership and control in the process. Or you could try to justify software built for a much larger scale.
None of those tradeoffs make sense for a five or ten-person team, when that groundwork is already done, at a fraction of the cost.
In 2024 we released Workspace Pro. It solved the problem of data distribution, cross-asset and cross-source analytics and AI integration. But it was also built for firms that need enterprise infrastructure, SSO, and support across a broader self-hosted deployment.
Over time, we kept meeting another kind of team, family offices, boutique funds, emerging managers. Teams with a real need to distribute analytics AI workflows, who wanted a solution they could start tinkering with, not a massive commitment.
So today we’re launching OpenBB Workspace Lite, a self-serve, self-hosted edition of OpenBB Workspace for small teams who want to run the same product in their own environment, without starting with enterprise overhead.
It is built for firms that want one place to work with their data and AI and share workflows across their team, on a smaller scale.
What you get
With Workspace Lite, your team can deploy the OpenBB Workspace in your own environment and run a shared analytics surface on top of your data ecosystem. The product is self-hosted and built for teams sharing workflows rather than leaving them trapped in one person’s notebook, spreadsheet, or local setup.
The core idea of OpenBB Workspace Lite is that your team's data, workflows, and agents live in an environment you own, not in someone else's cloud. There is no third party sitting between your team and your data, no vendor processing your workflows, and no dependency on the one person who happened to build the original dashboard.
For the onboarding, firms also get a one-hour session with our team where we can assist you with deployment, setup, data integration, or getting your first workflow live.
From the OpenBB Ecosystem
Data Apps from OpenBB Partners
You can explore our App Showcase page to see examples of real-life apps, and the OpenBB App Marketplace to see the data partners you can bring into your deployment. Inside Lite, the Marketplace works as a catalogue. You can browse what's available, but activating an app isn't instant. Reach out and we'll connect you directly to the partner so you can bring it into your own environment.
This works both ways. If you're a data provider talking to a firm about your data, point them to Workspace Lite or Pro, whichever fits, and we'll set them up. From there, they can bring your app into their own deployment themselves, or you can help them get it running directly.
Own your LLM Gateway with Lite and Agent Rita
Uber's CEO Dara Khosrowshahi recently revealed that the company burned through its entire annual AI coding budget in just four months, driven by company-wide adoption and gamified leaderboards that encouraged heavy use of autonomous AI tools.
Owning the LLM gateway underneath your workflows stops being a nice-to-have and starts being the difference between a controlled cost and an open-ended one. That's one of the reasons why, if you're looking for a way to put AI agents to work on your data, we recently open sourced Agent Rita.
Agent Rita is a financial agent you can run yourself, choosing your own model, whether that's a frontier model through a router or something you run entirely locally. Rita already knows how to search widgets, query data, run SQL, and build dashboards inside the Workspace, and teams can fork it and extend it around their own workflows.
It's open source and not bundled into the Lite Edition, but we believe it's a natural pairing if you're setting up a self-hosted workspace and want your team to build agentic workflows on it.
Who it’s for
Workspace Lite is for small investment teams that already have something to connect and need a shared way to work with it.
We believe it fits your firm if:
You already have some data in place, a database, a feed, an internal tool, portfolio data, or market data, and need a shared way to visualize it, analyze and distribute it.
Your team is passing work around through Excel, static dashboards, one-off scripts or Streamlit apps that are hard to maintain and lack AI capabilities.
You want to start using AI against your own workflows without scattering that work across disconnected, ungoverned tools.
Third-party solutions never seem to give you enough control to adapt them to your workflows. With Lite, you avoid the buy-vs-build trade-off, you get a workspace you can build directly on top of.
You don't need SSO or the scale that would point you toward the Pro Edition instead.
The Lite vs. Pro distinction
Workspace Lite gives you the same core Workspace experience as Pro. The interface, workspace capabilities, data connectivity, and AI compatibility are the same.
What changes is the infrastructure layer. Lite is for teams that can manage access credentials manually, do not require multi-entity, cloud-native database and object storage infrastructure, or the support model that comes with Pro. Lite is also built for one team inside one company, not for reselling, white-labeling, or running it as a service for your own customers.
Even though it does not come with a strict seat limit, we expect most teams to outgrow Lite after 10 people. But ultimately it all comes down to your specific requirements.
Pricing that rewards usage
We have never been fans of seat-based pricing. Charging per seat punishes the firms that get the most value from a product and quietly encourages teams to share logins instead of adopting the tool properly. It puts the our incentives at odds with yours.
So we decided for one flat price.
Workspace Lite is priced at $2,400 per year for the whole team.
Subscribe by August 31st using the code LITE50 to get 50% off and lock in a discounted rate of $1,200 for the year.
You can add all your team, analysts, quants, or PMs. Your cost will stay the same while your value per dollar goes up.
One of the most important aspects of Lite is that it’s self-serve. We wanted to remove all the friction and make adoption and onboarding as simple as possible.
Firms can subscribe today from our website and receive the onboarding details in their inbox immediately.

Teams that build with AI now will have an edge over those who wait.
