Answering those questions across separate brokerage dashboards creates extra steps, especially for people with accounts at more than one institution.

SnapTrade data and what makes it different
SnapTrade is a unified brokerage API that enables applications to connect to supported investment brokerages through a single integration. It provides normalized brokerage data across supported institutions, including accounts, balances, holdings, transactions, and orders.
SnapTrade currently supports 35+ brokerages and is used by 800+ applications. Through its supported brokerage integrations, SnapTrade can reach 400M+ retail investor accounts.
What makes this data different from a traditional market-data feed is that it reflects the user’s own connected investment accounts. For example, a user can view the positions they currently hold, their available buying power, recent account activity, and unrealized profit and loss instead of relying on a manually maintained portfolio or switching back to a brokerage dashboard.

The Manage Connections widget allows users to authenticate with SnapTrade and connect supported brokerage accounts. Once connected, the Portfolio Overview widget displays a summary of the connected portfolio, including information such as portfolio value, positions, cash, buying power, cost basis, and unrealized profit and loss, where available from the connected brokerage.
The Orders, Activities, and Balance History widgets provide additional visibility into connected brokerage accounts by displaying recent orders, account activity, and historical account balances. The remaining widgets provide supporting reference information available through SnapTrade.
SnapTrade provides the secure connection between OpenBB and supported brokerage accounts, allowing authorized account data to appear in the OpenBB Workspace alongside market data and research tools.
Alongside the SnapTrade widgets, users can pull in market data, economic indicators, and company research from other OpenBB partners or from internal sources. This way, portfolio and market context sit on the same dashboard rather than in separate tools.
Query your brokerage data with MCP
SnapTrade also offers an MCP server, allowing OpenBB Copilot or a custom agent to query connected brokerage data directly instead of requiring users to check each widget individually.
For example, a user could ask, “How does my portfolio’s cash position compare with what is happening in the market this week?” Copilot can retrieve the brokerage balance through SnapTrade and combine it with connected market data in a single answer.
This is what MCP adds to the workflow: brokerage data becomes something an agent can query and combine with other information in the Workspace, not just something a user reads from a dashboard.
A real workflow
Consider an investor reviewing their portfolio before a group of companies reports earnings. They can use the Portfolio Overview widget to see which positions they currently hold, their account value, available buying power, cost basis, and unrealized profit and loss, where available.
They can then review recent Orders and Activities to understand how the portfolio reached its current state, while Balance History provides additional context on how the account value has changed over time. With their brokerage account information available directly in OpenBB, they can continue researching companies, sectors, and market conditions without switching between research tools and brokerage dashboards.
This workflow uses the user’s connected brokerage account information, which makes the research directly relevant to the investments they actually own.
How to get started
- Open the OpenBB App Marketplace.
- Find and open the SnapTrade app.
- Complete the SnapTrade authentication process as prompted by the app.
- Connect one or more supported brokerage accounts through SnapTrade.
- Open the SnapTrade app or add the SnapTrade widgets to your dashboards and begin exploring your connected brokerage data.
