Velo brings digital assets market data to OpenBB, the workspace where investment teams bring their data together, build analysis workflows, and distribute them as interactive dashboards that analysts and AI agents can use together.
Fragmented data leads to fragile workflows
Velo is the leading source of aggregated, unified digital assets market data. While crypto activity is segregated across centralized and decentralized exchanges, Velo records and combines it into one easy-to-use package. Users can easily pull, analyze, and aggregate data using Velo’s API and ready-to-go libraries.
For a derivatives desk running basis trades across multiple venues, stitching together partial feeds and inconsistent funding rates means missed dislocations and fragile spreadsheets. Inside the OpenBB Workspace, Velo’s unified view becomes one more valuable data source that analysts can combine with their own positions, risk metrics, or macro curves, instead of living in a separate tool.
Why Velo’s data is top-tier
Velo sources data only from the highest-quality crypto exchanges.
You get 5+ years of data in 1-minute resolution across thousands of products, while Velo takes care of industry-specific quirks and differences under the hood so you can get straight to what you need.
What Velo’s App inside the OpenBB Workspace gets you
Inside OpenBB, the Velo app ships with four widgets out of the box:
- Historical Volatility – view realised vol across major pairs over custom windows, so you can sanity‑check options pricing or vol regime shifts.
- Funding Rate (APR) – track cross‑venue funding in annualised terms to see when perpetuals are rich or cheap versus spot.
- DVOL & Price – line up options‑implied vol with the underlying price to spot where the options market is getting nervous before spot moves.
- Futures Basis (3M Ann.) – monitor three‑month annualised basis across venues to see where basis trades pay and where they have already been arbitraged away.
Analysts can also drop these into their existing dashboards, link them to watchlists or positions, and query them with OpenBB Copilot alongside their own internal data.
An API key unlocks full access to Velo’s offerings and libraries, which you can read more about here.
A real agentic use case
On a BTC dashboard with Velo’s Futures Basis and Funding Rate widgets already pinned, a PM can ask Copilot a simple question instead of manually scanning charts. In the example above, the prompt is: “On this BTC dashboard, find the strongest recent dislocations where three‑month annualised futures basis is high and average funding rate across exchanges is low, and create a chart with the top ones with basis, funding, and spread.”
Copilot calls Velo, calculates the dates where basis was rich while funding was still cheap, and returns a ranked set of dislocations with basis, funding, and spread side by side. It also builds a new panel that plots those points so the desk can see, at a glance, when they were being over‑paid on the trade and by how much. This is just one example, but the same pattern holds: Velo supplies the funding and basis data, and OpenBB’s agents do the legwork of finding and visualising the windows that matter.
